According to statistics released this week by SolarPower Europe, the solar photovoltaic system in Europe is experiencing an "installation boom" in 2019, which is the best year in the history of the European solar photovoltaic industry.

The data showed that the European region increased solar installations by 16.7 gigawatts in 2019, up 104% year on year and more than double the 8.2 gigawatts increase of a year earlier.

Walburga Hemetsberger, chief executive of SolarPower Europe, said: "the installation boom shows that SolarPower in Europe is on track. In 2019, we are entering a new era of solar development, with more new installations than any other generation technology."

Aurelie Beauvais, policy director at SolarPower Europe, attributed the sharp increase in solar installations to a sharp drop in the cost of solar photovoltaic modules.

In 2019, Spain was the largest market in Europe, adding 4.7GW, by Germany (4GW), the Netherlands (2.5GW,), France (1.1GW,) and Poland (784MW).
