Recent data from the African Solar Energy Industry Association show that the African solar energy industry is ushering in a period of accelerated development. In the past two months, lots of African countries have announced a total of nearly 2GW of large and medium-sized solar power plant projects.

According to the report released at the Munich International Solar Energy Exhibition last year, the African solar energy industry has huge development potential. If the development speed of African solar energy industry keeps up with the pace of other regions of the world, the photovoltaic installed capacity of the African continent will reach 170GW by 2030.

Africa has a vast territory, uneven regional development, and a huge gap in industrial power consumption. However, its rich solar resources can absorb solar energy industry investments of various types, scales and technical characteristics. The relatively low-cost and scalable solar energy is an important solution for accelerating the energy transition in this region. Africa is expected to become a key area for the rapid development of the global solar energy industry.
